THIS WEEK’S SUPPER INGREDIENTS:
-
NY Strip Steak
-
Green Olives
-
Parsley
NY strip steak is one of my favorite cuts of steak. It comes from the short loin or the back end of the steer. This area is also home to popular cuts like the tenderloin and t-bone. Because the short loin is a muscle area that is not used very much the meat from this area tends to be tender. Now NY Strip is not as tender as the tenderloin but in my opinion has a stronger beef flavor with the increase in marbling vs the tenderloin. Leaner than the ribeye ( which is my favorite cut) there is less flare ups on the grill and this option is a healthier version deliver less fat grams. A constant steak house favorite the NY Strip is super versatile and a great choice for cooking at home.
Green olives are always an absolute must in my snack packing assembly line. My kids love them in their lunches and I find them a satisfying snack especially when paired with some marcona almonds when I am actually able to take a few minutes for myself. When I was in college my roommate introduced me to the magic that is green olive pizza! Its basically just cheese pizza with green olives on it but I fell in love. If any pizza joints ever read this you could do a girl a solid and make green olives more available for pizza toppings :). When added to a dish they bring a perfect salty briny component to an otherwise flat dish. I will have to try very hard not to eat these while I am recipe testing!
Parsley doesn’t seem like a very exciting ingredient by yet it makes so many dishes better. Not just a garnish parsley adds a burst of freshness to many dishes that you don’t realize. Those perfect meatballs probably have parsley pureed in the panade and you never knew! ( well at least mine do). Perfect in sauces and stuffings I think parsley gets a bad rap!
I hope you check back on Tuesday to see what I have created for my supper and as always, I would love to see what you have made so “SnapYourSupper” and be sure to use the hashtag #snapyoursupper!
